Hunger is a real issue in Stockport. The COVID-19 pandemic and rising living costs have led to an increase in demand for food parcels and urgent support. Thankfully, our community has a beacon of hope: the Chelwood Foodbank Plus.

About Chelwood Foodbank Plus

Established in 2013, Chelwood Foodbank Plus is a Charitable Community Benefit Society that provides practical support to those facing food poverty. Over the past year, they issued 2700 food parcels and supported over 4000 adults and 2500 children. Their fantastic work is only possible thanks to their dedicated team of volunteers.

The charity’s flexibility sets it apart from other food banks; they are not part of a large chain, which allows them to respond to the needs of the community without the constraints of restrictive administrative policies. However, this independence also means they rely entirely on community support and do not receive food from supermarket chains that have signed agreements with larger national charities.

What They Do

Chelwood Foodbank Plus operates three food banks in some of the most deprived areas of Stockport. They provide emergency food parcels for families and individuals experiencing financial hardship, helping up to three times within a 13-week period. For those needing longer-term assistance, they offer information about joining a food club.

During the pandemic, Chelwood expanded its service by acquiring new premises and a delivery van. They also created a helpline (now ceased) to provide immediate support for those in need.

Partnering with Zarach

In an exciting development, Chelwood Stockport Foodbank Plus has partnered with Zarach, a charity that provides beds and essentials to children living in poverty. This partnership allows them to provide even more support for families in crisis and help children eat, sleep, and learn.

Get Involved

There are many ways you can support Chelwood Stockport Foodbank Plus. You can make a donation directly or through their Amazon wishlist, which lets you ‘donate’ food and have it delivered to their facility. Alternatively, you can volunteer your time and skills to help the charity continue its vital work.

A Note of Gratitude

We want to take a moment to express our deep appreciation for Chelwood Foodbank Plus. The tireless work they do for the community is inspiring and life-changing.

Help us support this fantastic initiative by spreading the word about their work and contributing where you can. Every little bit helps in making a significant difference in someone’s life.
